ON the beat: Score a private house concert with Arma del Amor’s Kickstarter campaign

Arma Del Amor ON the campaign trail

Arma Del Amor ON the campaign trail

Wanaka darlings Arma del Amor have been busy since they started making music together in 2013. Building on the momentum stirred up by stellar gigs at Rippon Music Festival, a winter tour of NZ’s snowfields and Rhythm and Alps, Martine Harding and Danny Fairley have been mixing up a storm in the studio recently.  They’re now making the call out for supporters to get on board the campaign to help them cover the $10,000 cost of finishing their debut album. Described as “if symbiosis were recordable, this would be it”, Arma del Amor’s sound is addictive, at once ethereal and visceral. With Martine’s voice soaring over Danny’s electronic beats which have lately accompanied by drummer Ricky Simmonds, the collaboration has been compared to the likes of The XX and The Knife. They have a hypnotic stage presence (we love their outfits – hipster head-to-toe black, Martine’s mesh top and fur hat, Danny’s controversial headdress – yes!) and a pertinent aural appeal that gets under your skin and into your bones. To bring this sound from Aotearoa to the world, the group want to put the final touches on their album so they “can produce the finest quality piece of audio art”. Backers have a range of rewards to choose from according to how much they donate. Pledges of over $15 get a digital download of the album, and for $3000 you could score a concert in your living room. With the album tour planned for April this year, Arma del Amor have a goal to raise their funding in four weeks. The first two days of the campaign saw them get halfway there, so the target is now within their grasp. Have a listen, and if you like their stuff, help them out.
