Earning the turns with Mission WOW’s Jo Guest

ANNABEL WILSON joined Jo Guest of Mission WOW as she led a troupe of backcountry trekkers into the mountains on a quest to share skills and ideas at Cardrona recently. Here’s the skinny from Jo on leftovers and other life lessons. Then we tell you WHAT’S ON this week in Wanaka and beyond.

What’s happening in the world of Jo Guest at the moment?

Mission WOW winter world is all about the backcountry and introducing lovely ladies into what is possible in their backyard. We’ve branched out with support from Aspiring Guides to also run some progression camps with an overnight trip to Robrosa hut in the Pisa Range and a spring time glacier trip on the West Coast. I’ve also taken on 2 contracts as the volunteers’ manager for two new events this year: the Red Bull Defiance multisport race and the Queenstown Marathon.

Describe Mission WOW in five words.

Fun, friends, freedom, community, curiosity.

Which living person do you most admire and why?

Anyone who is getting out there and making it happen.

What wakes you up in the middle of the night?

If i didn’t eat enough.

What is your most treasured possession?

My house’s character. It’s been a home to me and lots of others for about seven years. I love the various people who come to stay for a short or long time and I appreciate the times when it’s just me. It’s one of the reasons I’ve stayed in Wanaka; having a home base is invaluable to me.

If we raided your fridge, what would we find?

Leftovers. Always cook more than enough so you can have it for lunch the next day.

The best thing about Friday is…

Yoga with Jill in the morning

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Always try/ organize something once and then do it again so you can use everything you learnt the first time.

What’s ON for Winter?

Outside.

What’s OFF?

Worrying.

What do you like best about Wanaka?

The people.

This weekend, you’ll find the ON crew sipping cocktails on the Gin & Raspberry balcony as we celebrate mid winter and try to win a Harris Mountains heliski. Saturday sees us up Treble Cone for Chicks With Sticks free freeride session and the DB Export Banked Slalom. We’ll top off the day with the degustation dinner at Bistro Gentil, in the company of acclaimed artist Rangi Kipa. See you out there!

To appear in our Gig Guide, submit your events to our website. For further support with promotion, advertising, interviews, reviews and photography for your happenings, contact annabel@onmag.co.nz.

  • Thanks for your short article. I would like to say a heatlh insurance brokerage also works best for the benefit of the particular coordinators of any group insurance plan. The heatlh insurance broker is given an index of benefits looked for by a person or a group coordinator. Such a broker will is try to find individuals or coordinators which often best complement those needs. Then he reveals his suggestions and if both sides agree, this broker formulates a contract between the two parties.
