ANNABEL WILSON hangs out in The Wax Room with freeskier Janina Kuzma on the eve of the Winter Games 2015 and discovers what’s ON her mind and what’s in her ski pants pocket. Then we tell you what’s ON in the 443 and beyond this weekend.
What’s happening in your world at the moment ? The Winter Games are about to kick off. I’m busy planning the Shades of Winter filming trip in New Zealand whilst fitting in training and uni.
What’s in your ski pants pocket ? Girly things…Lippy, ski pass, phone, a little cash.
What’s to love about the Winter Games? What I love about the Winter Games is the hustle and bustle they bring into Wanaka. It makes a great atmosphere with a lot of different countries competing at my home mountain Cardrona Alpine Resort and over the hill at Coronet Peak.
To what do you owe your parents? I’m thankful that they got me skiing at an early age.
What’s your favorite thing about the 443? The coffee and cafes! Also knowing lots of people in town and the local feel about it.
Which tunes do you crank on your device right now? I have a playlist called ‘biatches’ – all my leading ladies who I love. I crank that all the time.
What wakes you up in the middle of the night? Chris coming home late from The Waxroom.
What’s your fave overseas resort? Fernie BC.
What gets you amped ? Shredding with friends, skiing and powder.
And how do you chill or relax? Skiing!
What’s ON for winter ? The end of my 20’s.
What’s Off?! This season is going off!
It sure is. So is this weekend. Tonight the ON crew will finish work early for a lakeside brew, then drop in to the Oh My Goodness soiree at the Good Corner. Craft beer, bikes and fireplay – we can’t wait. Ladi6 is playing a free gig on the Village Green in QT so if you’re one of the lucky ones who scored a ticket we want to hear all about it. For those wanting a theatre fix, Revenge of the Amazons is on at the Lake Wanaka Centre at 6.30pm on Friday and Saturday. Performed by local students, the show is a satire which pokes fun at gender perceptions and is bound to have the audience in stitches. After that we’re hankering for a late night 42Below vodka at the Wanaka Winter Games village to get us in the zone for the Vice party at LalaLand. Our ol’ buddy DJ Jason Kyle is playing at The Bunker on Saturday night AND K+Lab is on at the Bungalow! We love it when Caleb gets his keytar out as seen in our TFIF interview with him a while back.
So much to see and do… During the daytime we’ll be supporting the Kiwis in the World Cup Slopestyle (Saturday) and halfpipe (Sunday) at Cardrona. Next week the Winter Games continue. We’re stoked about the good vibes this event incites. Especially the Kora gig supported by Arma del Amor on August 30 – and the awe-inspiring athletes dropping into town. It’s ON!
